About

MOSI MTOTO (Mosi Baby in Swahili)

‘A small gift for you, a big gift for others’

Mosi Mtoto is a very small hobby business that sells a range of different products. Some are designed in Australia and made overseas and some products are hand picked from Vietnam or are simply bought wholesale. Our mission is to donate the proceeds of every product to help support people (mainly children) severely effected by poverty in Kenya and Uganda. Our Vietnam products are beautifully made with love and generations of skill and craftsmanship. We aim to implement sustainability projects, such as assisting developing rural village schools, planting food crops, installing water pumps and tanks and setting up goat and chicken farms with the profits that we make from this small business.

How Mosi Mtoto started:

After travelling extensively throughout East Africa, I found it extremely difficult to return home and continue on with life as ‘normal’, knowing how many children are struggling and have no chance of hope for their future. Some of the images I witnessed will remain with me forever. I came home and thought ‘what can I do to help?

One of my biggest observations from my travels in Africa is that giving donations only lasts short term, the money soon runs out and they are quickly back to square one again. I heard the saying; “give a man fish and it feeds him for a day, or teach him how to fish and it feeds him for a lifetime”, this then became my goal; setting up sustainability projects, along with helping children gain an education. I truly believe that education and sustainability projects are the key elements in winning the fight against poverty. It seems pretty simple; with education; their lives have hope, they have choice. Without an education; their lives are chosen for them, which is most commonly filled with hard labour jobs, for very little money, begging on the streets, prostitution, disease, hunger and war. This is the tragic cycle of poverty, it’s the same path their father, and mother, grandfather and grandmother were forced to take. As Nelson Mandela so wisely said: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Whether it’s educating a child in a school, or educating a farmer on how to grow successful maize crops, it’s education that will eventually break this cycle and this is our mission, to tackle poverty through educating and end this devastating cycle for as many children as possible.

We provide developing schools, orphanages and educational programs in Africa with funds that will allow the poorest of children the opportunity to gain an education and the poorest of villages the chance to build successful farms and gain clean drinking water. Our money will assist with; school building construction, school books, school fees, stationary and equipment purchases, sustainability projects (such as implementation and construction of water pumps, food crops and animal farms), student transport, educational excursions, teacher professional learning and providing students (many who are orphans) with a daily nutritious meal. Just to name a few!

We donate proceeds of Mosi Mtoto to projects that will make a sustainable and long term difference in Africa and most importantly will restore hope and dreams in the lives of children who deserve a fair chance in life.

We understand the immense work that goes into creating, developing, funding and sustaining schools and organisations to improve the lives of children in the third world and we hope to help alleviate stress for those admirable individuals who are dedicating their lives to helping those less fortunate in Africa.

We provide regular updates (on our instagram page) where our money is going and how it is contributing to the fight to end poverty in Africa and other third world countries.
